Does music change our odds of success?
When you wake up in the morning how do you feel? As I teach personal development, self-improvement, self-esteem I always ask about how people and their habits. You might even find yourself taking one of my surveys or quizzes that circle the internet inviting you to participate. Please do! You will find questions to help you be a success.
When you wake up in the morning what mood are you in?
When I ask this many people share a negative feeling of waking in the morning. “Ugh, it’s too early.” “I don’t wanna go to work.” I am sure you have all heard people express these feelings.
Do they change those feelings after they have been up a while? Some do. Some don’t. How about you?
Here is my goofy wake up good morning mood event. Yes, it is an event. I like to think that every evening when I go to bed that I decided to wake up in a great mood. People argue with me about whether or not you can decide the night before if you are going to wake in a great mood. I believe you can but if you don’t believe that then this article is for you.
When you wake up in a not so great mood, try this. Stumble into the bathroom, turn on the light, look in the mirror at the horror waiting for you there and say, “you are the best looking person in the room!”
I know! Crazy! Absurd! Wild! Drug induced!
Do you know what happens when you do this? You have to smile at least and laugh at best. It automatically puts you into a better mood and the best part is, it’s true! You have given yourself a positive affirmation first thing in the morning! Yay!
And now even better. As you get ready for the day, stop putting on the TV. Stop listening to any news program because the world isn’t going to end if you don’t hear the news. Instead, start humming or singing a song. What song? YOUR song.
What I mean by your song is, you need to develop a theme song. Yes, your theme song.
We all know music can change your attitude, change your mental processes, and makes a difference in your life. Now you get to decide what mood, emotions you want in your life at any given time.
I know, when I am walking into any speaking gig or crucial social situation that if I play the Bee Gees ‘Stayin’ Alive’ in my head that I stand straighter and taller and walk with a little more swagger as I feel that music.
How about you? Could your success in any social situation be linked to the music playing in your head? You know the answer is yes, because even as you thought of a couple songs, your mind changed, maybe even your attitude? Body posture?
And each time we allow or place images, thoughts or sounds into our minds we change how we feel, act and react. When you make a deliberate (conscious) effort to put the ‘right’ things into your mind you over-ride any negative thoughts that are sitting and waiting. You erase doubt, fear and uncertainty and replace them with positive and strong feelings that will help you become more successful.
Want to be more successful? Before any meeting, event, situation play your favorite song and then feel that song as you do what you need to do and you will become more successful.
